Pointless Beauty - Hearts Full of Grace

About

Committed to a spirit of sonic adventure, Al Swainger has been focused on creating collaborations through Pointless Beauty since 2014 and has released two quintet albums, three solo albums and a host of collaborative and solo singles so far.

As a concept Pointless Beauty is about curiosity, reflection and transformation. Membership is fluid, though carefully curated, and always appropriate to the conversation of the music as it evolves.

Blending influences from ambient, latin, rock, pop and electronica with improvised music, this is a very personal take on what jazz or progressive music could be.

While every artist is a product of their listening life, few so actively push to transform those influences into something so vibrantly non-conformist.

As a multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer, Al is both eclectic and transformative. His use of FX pedals and computer manipulation provide an extensive and original tonal palette with which to sculpt his music.

Comparisons with the world music grooves of Weather Report, sonic sophistication of Radiohead or eclectic voyages of Miles Davis might spring most easily to the minds of the casual listener... but the rewards for accepting an implicit invitation to patiently reflect will reveal a far more innovative vision. Other sympathetic aural reflections might be found amongst the measured unfolding of Mathew Halsall, melodic dexterity of Eivind Aarset or genre bounding approaches of Corrie Dick perhaps.

In a world constantly seeking to destroy our attention spans, and steal our every waking moment, Al Swainger exhibits a patient determination to gently restore our mental health and emotional independence through Pointless Beauty.
